I continued easing back into work (probably doing a bit too much) following my recovery from last year’s cancer treatment.

January saw me helping my friend and work colleague Simon Butler (bathroom fitter & plumber) converting an existing bathroom and small bedroom into a wet room with dressing area at Gunner Close, Dussindale, for Simon’s client, who requires wheelchair accessible accommodation. This involved removing a stud wall, taking out both doorways, and fitting a larger doorway (opening out). Simon completed all the plumbing and together we fitted the shower wall panels. I then supplied and fitted the striking navy blue wardrobes to the dressing area.

In the last week of January I cut and fitted Ovolo skirtings, architraves, and hung a pair of doors for a client at Repps With Bastwick.

Currently on order I have a previous client awaiting the installation of 3 half hour fire doors for a property in Horning, and also new kitchen unit doors and decor panels at Fairstead Close in North Walsham, which will give me a good start to February. I also hope to be catching up soon on works put on hold from last year.

I continued at a client’s home in Thorpe Market fitting a further 6 Suffolk style oak internal doors, which completed the total of 10 requested.

Last year (2023) I fitted a new kitchen and replaced all the ground floor doors at a home on Wherry Close, North Walsham, and I returned this month (after recovering from cancer) to fit Howdens pre-finished Holdenbury oak internal doors upstairs to complete all the door replacements.

The kitchen refit at Millfield Road, North Walsham has also been completed, with the supply and fitting of a very striking glass splashback behind the hob.

2025 looks promising, as I still have a number of projects waiting to be started and a nice steady flow of new enquiries.

Work continued on the kitchen at Millfield Road, North Walsham.

Worktops were cut out for hob and sink which were fitted before oak worktops were oiled and then fixed in place.

Unit door handles, plinths, appliances, sink, taps, skirting boards, and architraves were fitted.

Wall tiles were fitted above the worktops and window sill, plus new oak shelves hung on the wall.

New spotlights, LED under-unit lights, a new fuse board and replacement/new sockets completed the electrics connecting all new appliances.

A printed glass splashback is on order and should be fitted early next month.

Other works completed include replacing 4 internal doors with Daytona style oak doors in Dussindale; replacing 4 internal doors with Suffolk style oak doors in Thorpe Market; changing the cloakroom door at a property in Poringland so that it opened outwards, plus new laminate flooring and forming a new meter cupboard above the door.

This month sees me “easing” back into work, following the end of my cancer treatment.

My client has waited since February for their new kitchen to be fitted, and I thank them for their support.

With the existing kitchen units and ceiling already having been removed, I was able to start straightaway with a complete kitchen rewire. The ceiling has been reboarded and the internal brickwork under the window replaced. Various walls were levelled/patched up and the whole kitchen replastered.

Following the removal of the existing floor tiles, the client decided to take up the sub floor: a new damp proof membrane has been fitted, followed by a new floor and tiles.

Ceiling and walls have been decorated and October ended with the new kitchen units being fitted.

The best news of the month came on October 15th when I heard that I am now in full remission and my latest PET CT scan showed no cancer. Bi-monthly blood tests going forward to check on protein levels are all that is required henceforward. Happy days!

Quite an exciting month one way and another!

My strange and challenging year continued throughout the summer, and I spent 5 weeks pinned down Monday – Friday underneath this rather ghoulish article, receiving radiotherapy:-

 

Whilst I am still awaiting the date for a PET CT scan which I hope will confirm I am cancer-free, I am much stronger than at the end of treatment in July; I continue to feel well and as we head into autumn I am about to begin a gradual return to work with fingers firmly crossed!
